Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the thickness over the entire part of a device and to reduce electric power consumption by disposing a finely striped screen-like sheet alternately laminated and integrated with reflecting layers and transparent layers in parallel with each other between a liquid crystal or display and light source.
CONSTITUTION: A plane reflecting mirror 4 is provided under the finely striped screen-like sheet 3 alternately laminated and integrated in parallel with the reflecting layers 1 and the transparent layers 2 and a cold cathode ray tube 5 as the light source is disposed alongside the sheet 1 off the position right under the sheet. The liquid crystal 6 is disposed right above this device. The light from the light source is, therefore, uniformly diffused without being attenuated and is uniformly projected over the entire part of the liquid crystal, by which just one piece of the light source is necessitated. The backlight device of the thin type is thereby obtd. and the electric power is saved.
