Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a rapidly-cutting type fuse with a good response simply by forming a fuse element with a high temperature oxide superconductor. CONSTITUTION:A current limiting fuse 1 is formed by filling a fuse element 5 and an arc extinguish agent 6 in an insulating tube 2. As the fuse element, one of Y-Ba-Cu system oxide, Er-Ba-Cu system oxide, Yb-Ba-Cu system oxide, Ho-Ba-Cu system oxide, Tm-Ba-Cu system oxide, or Dy-Ba-Cu system oxide is used. Such a fuse element is cooled usually losing electric resistance, and when a current exceeding the critical current is applied, it is heated and exercises a heat fusing operation. Since these high temperature oxide superconductors have a good response to the current-heated fusing and they are primarily inorganic oxides, they have little thermal stress and less deteriorating tendency.
