Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the highly precise measurement of characteristics of a variable resistance, by measuring a resistance value between first and third terminals of the variable resistance and a resistance value between third and second terminals thereof by determining means. CONSTITUTION:When electric characteristics of a variable resistance VR are measured, probe pins CP1-CP3 are made to contact with lead pins LP1-LP3 of the variable resistance VR respectively on the occasion of measurement. On measuring the resistance, VR, first an operator D of the variable resistance VR is operated to move a movable contact piece MC to the vicinity of the middle point of a resistance element R. Next, a resistance value R1 between the contact piece MC and one end part of the element R is measured and then a resistance value R2 between the contact piece MC and the other end of the element R is measured. Thereafter the combined resistance value of these measured resistance values R1 and R2 is determined, and it is discriminated whether this combined resistance value is within tolerance limits or not. The characteristics are determined as standing the test when said value is within a tolerance value, and as not standing same when the value is outside the tolerance value.
