PURPOSE:To obtain a toner image with high quality stabilized for a long period by changing the abutting end of a process member being abutted with the surface of an image carrying drum in the axial direction of the drum according to the rotation of the image carrying drum. CONSTITUTION:At the time of performing an image generating operation by rotating a photosensitive drum 1, the shaft 34 of a cam 32 is also rotated, and a rod 33 fitted in a cam groove 35 is reciprocated in the axial X direction of the drum 1, that is, a direction shown in arrow head A with a cleaning blade 15. Since the blade 15 is operated in the direction of arrow head A, it is possible to evade the abutting end 30 of the blade 15 being abutted with the photosensitive drum 1 from being abutted always on the same part on the surface of the drum 1. In other words, the abutting end 30 is abutted with the surface of the drum as drawing a locus C. Therefore, it is possible to prevent only the same part on the surface of the drum from being pressurized by the abutting end 30 of the blade 15, and to permit an external force from the abutting end 30 to be applied on the prescribed range W of the drum 1 in the axial direction on an average.
