Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the leak loss of a labyrinth seal part at the time of slow revolution with a simple and inexpensive structure by supporting a labyrinth on a diaphragm free of slide motion, and making energizing force of the spring and fluid pressure both act on the labyrinth. CONSTITUTION:A labyrinth 9' is supported on a guide groove 15 installed in a diaphragm 5' free of slide motion in the radial direction, while a spring is interposed between them. A pocket 12, making this labyrinth 9' act in its contraction direction, is interconnected to the low pressure side by a drill hole 10. In addition, a pocket 13, making the labyrinth 9' act in its expanding direction, is interconnected to the high pressure side by a drill hole 11. At the time of high speed of an impeller 3 tightly attached to a turning shaft 2, the labyrinth 9' is expanded wide and a proper clearance size 12 to the impeller 3 is maintained. On the other hand, at the time of low speed, the labyrinth 9' is contacted by the spring 14, and the proper clearance size 12 is maintained.
