Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a compensating part correspond to a clearance between different deck surfaces and make this clearance effectively sealable by installing each sub-plate laminatedly on one side of a substrate with beads surrounding a combustion chamber or the like, while turning up an edge of this sub-plate and supoerposing it on that of the substrate, and making it the compensating part. CONSTITUTION:There are provided with beads 16 surrounding a combustion chamber hole 8 of an engine, hole beads 18 surrounding each of bolt holes 10 and oil holes 12, and a section stepped peripheral bead 20 in an peripheral edge including these beads 16, 18, forming a substrate 4 from an elastic metal plate. Each sub-plate 6 is laminated on one side 4a of this substrate 4, constituting a desired metal gasket 2. At this time, an edge 6e at the side of the combustion chamber hole is turned up and superposed on the other side 4b of the substrate 4 so as to involve a combustion chamber side edge 4e of the substrate 4, thereby forming a turnup part 22.
