Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a superconductor having excellent superconducting characteristics such as critical current density, by melting an oxide superconductor (or its raw material mixture) in oxygen atmosphere, stirring under application of magnetic field, forming to a prescribed form and solidifying the formed product by cooling. CONSTITUTION:An oxide superconductor (e.g. Y-Ba-Cu-O lamellar perovskite- type oxide) or a mixture containing the elements constituting an oxide superconductor at prescribed ratios is prepared beforehand. The superconductor (or its raw material) is put into a crucible 3, placed in a melting furnace 1 and melted in oxygen atmosphere by heating with a heater 4. A magnetic field is applied to the melt 6 with a coil 5. The melt 6 is stirred and homogenized and, at the same time, oxygen in the atmosphere is included in the melt 6 by the interaction of the magnetic field and the ion in the melt 6. The treated melt 6 is formed in a prescribed form and solidified by cooling to obtain the objective oxide superconductor.
