Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable production of a fine powder capable of providing ZrO2 ceramics having high density and strength, by using a zirconia sol obtained by subjecting an aqueous solution obtained by hydrolyzing an aqueous solution containing Zr salt, etc. to ultrafiltration cleaning in dehydration and heat treatment of zirconia sol. CONSTITUTION:A zirconia sol is dehydrated, dried and calcined to provide the zirconium oxide fine powder, as necessary containing a stabilizer. In the above-mentioned method, the zirconia sol obtained by subjecting an aqueous solution obtained by hydrolyzing an aqueous solution containing Zr salt, Zr hydroxide or zirconia hydrate to filtration cleaning with an ultrafiltration membrane is used. An unreacted product considered to be cause giving strong aggregation of particle, ungrown Zr hydroxide and zirconia, hydrate thereof, further salt and acid existing together therewith can be removed while stably maintaining the reaction liquid according to the above-mentioned ultrafiltration. Therefore ZrO2 powder of raw material capable of providing high-density sintered compact by dehydration and heating treatment is stably obtained.
