Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a cyanoacrylate composition having improved adhesive performance, by adding ethylene carbonate to a 2-cyanoacrylate. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene carbonate is added to a 2-cyanoacrylate formula (R is 1-8C alkyl, cycloalkyl, etc.) or a mixture of two or more kinds of the cyanoacrylates. The adhesivity of the acrylate increases by increasing the amount of ethylene carbonate until a specific level, especially 30-40wt.%, above which the adhesivity remarkably decreases. The set time of the adhesive also increases by the increase in the amount of ethylene carbonate and becomes nearly constant above a specific content. The addition of ethylene carbonate lowers the hardness and increases the flexibility of cured product. The composition is extremely stable even by decreasing the amount of conventional acidic stabilizer. It is especially useful as an adhesive for artificial nail, a screw- fastening agent, etc.
