Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate rapid supply of signatures by providing slidable members on both sides of a conveyer for conveying the signatures in a standing posture, and by inserting rear retaining members in the slide parts of he slidable members so as to bear the same on the latter, and by allowing the rear retaining members to run at a speed higher than that of the conveyer. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of signatures is mounted on a signature setting bed 13 in a standing posture, and is conveyed downward in the direction of the arrow A by endless conveyers 2 on both sides. There provided rotatable slide members 38 are provided on both sides of the conveyers 2. At the terminal end of the conveyers 2, the signatures are shifted onto a longitudinal slidable belt 4, and is conveyed to the next station. A movable bed 7 is moved along the lower side of the slidable member 38 at a speed higher than the conveyer 2, and two projecting rods 29 attached to the movable bed 7 are extended between the adjacent signatures so as to push the signatures. With this arrangement, a signature is easily replenished at the starting end of the conveyers 2, and is rapidly made into contact with the preceding signature to prevent the operation from being interrupted, thereby it is possible for one member to handle several machines.
