Abstract

PURPOSE:To obviate the generation of IR absorption between 3-4mum wavelengths by bringing the hydrogen and oxygen atoms taken into a hard carbon film into reaction to decrease the carbon-hydrogen bonds in the film. CONSTITUTION:This IR optical element 1 is formed by using the hard carbon film contg. oxygen. The carbon-hydrogen bonds in the hard carbon film are decreased by bringing the oxygen atoms into reaction with the hydrogen taken therein. IR absorption at 3-4mum wavelength is thereby substantially eliminated and the film lends itself to the antireflection film of a germanium substrate 2. The importance as the IR optical element is thus enhanced.
