Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce metal powder for sintering having excellent compressibility, strength after sintering and machinability by mixing MoS2 powder and specifically composed Fe-Mn alloy powder at specific ratios and heating the mixture at a specific temp. in an atmosphere contg. H2. CONSTITUTION:0.3-1.2wt.% MoS2 powder and the Fe-Mn alloy powder contg. of 0.05+alpha-0.25+alpha%Mn (where alpha denotes 1.69 times% of S in the above- mentioned MoS2) and the balance inevitable impurities are mixed. This powder mixture is then heated to 700-950 deg.C temp. range in the atmosphere contg. H2. MoS2 is thus partially alloyed on the surface of Fe-Mn alloy powder. The resultant metal powder for sintering has the excellent compressibility and high strength and is suitable for producing a sintered material improved in the machinability by the MoS2.
