Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of the plastic deformation of the lead tube so as to obtain good dynamic characteristics of a sodium lamp by providing sodium amalgam in the luminous tube made of transparent alumina provided with the lead tube mainly made of niobium to which an electrode is fixed with titanium solder and by specifying the temperature of the titanium solder portion during the lighting of the lamp. CONSTITUTION:The temperature of the titanium solder portion of a lamp is to be kept between 756 deg.C and 825 deg.C. For instance, a luminous tube 1 is made of polycrystalline alumina and the lead tube 2 is made of an alloy of 90% of niobium and 1% of zirconium, and an electrode rod 5 is fixed to the tip of the lead tube 2 with titanium solder 4, and 6.0mg of sodium, 14mg of mercury and about 6.5kPa of xenon gas are sealed in the luminous tube 1. When a lamp with such a structure the rating of which is e.g. 100V, 150W is lighted at 100V the mean color rendering index Ra is kept at 85, the color temperature is kept at 2500K and the surface tempera ture (at the point [a]) of the titanium solder is kept at 818 deg.C, and even when the lamp is lighted at 129V (at this time, the power is 162W, the temperature of the tita nium solder is 825 deg.C) the plastic deformation of the lead tube is not generated, and on the other hand, when the temperature of the titanium solder is lower than 765 deg.C the mean color rendering index Ra is reduced to less than 70.
