Abstract

PURPOSE:To surely realize broken line approximation processing even with a complicated image by detecting the longest continuous edge component point sequence out of the edge component point sequences set on a detected linear component and then detecting the longest linear component along the edge component point sequence. CONSTITUTION:A peak detecting part 32 detects a peak point of a 2-dimensional historgram and then a detecting part 33 for edge point on the longest straight line extracts such an edge point where a mapping function passes through said peak point. A projection converting part 34 projects said edge point on a 1-dimensional array and a longest continuous component detecting part 35 detects the longest continuous component. A deciding part 36 compares said continuous component with the prescribed shortest segment for decision of the presence of a segment and outputs a data through a linear data output part 37. Thus the longest straight line is extracted along an edge component point train for reformation. Then the broken line approximation processing can surely be ensured even with a complicated image.
