Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a medical picture diagnosing device, etc., by setting automatically a range of picture element value to be displayed with emphasis based on the mean value of the values of picture elements within a noticed area set on a screen and the standard deviation and displaying with emphasis all picture elements having values within said range. CONSTITUTION:An operator indicates a designated area on a picture display part 6 via a position pointer 8. Then the indicated area is stored in a control memory 2 and an arithmetic control part 1 sets a range of the picture element value for emphasized display based on the mean value of picture elements within said range and standard deviation. Then the contents of a luminance conversion table are rewritten for each prescribed time and normal and emphasized screens are alternately displayed on a display part 6. Thus it is possible to easily set the range of the picture element value for emphasized display and to improve the operability of a picture display device.
