Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a multi-disc clutch in a compact size which is suitable for a continuously variable transmission by providing a driving side member connected to an engine output shaft, a driven side member connected to the input shaft of the continuously variable transmission and the connecting/ disconnecting mechanism for both members. CONSTITUTION:A multi-disc clutch 30 is provided with an input shaft 32 integrally formed on the central portion at one end side of its driving side member 34 and is held at the end face of the crank shaft 14 of an engine. And it is rotatably held with the input shaft 104 of a continuously variable transmission 100 at the fitting portion 40 provided on the central portion of the other end. Accordingly, the driving side member 34 is held by the crank shaft 14 of the engine and the input shaft 104 of the continuously variable transmission 100 so that the accuracy of axial positioning is good and also it is securely held, so that smooth rotary force can be transmitted. Because of the construction in which the crank shaft 14 and the input shaft 104 of the continuously variable transmission are inserted in the driving side member 34, the axial dimension can be reduced to attain a compact size.
