Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the strength and corrosion resistance of a pipe joint by carrying out explosive cladding first and second tubular members made of stainless steel and Zr or a Zr alloy with Ta as intermediate material. CONSTITUTION:The Ta pipe is fitted on the outside of the stainless steel pipe whose inside is filled and solidified tightly by a medium such as an asphalt compound and further, the Zr or Zr alloy pipe is fitted on the outside thereof. Next, the three pipes are arranged with uniform clearances and explosives are charged on the outside periphery of the outside Zr or Zr alloy pipe to carry out explosive formation. After the edges of the triple pipes are cut, the stainless steel of the one side edge and Ta and Zr layers of the other side end are further cut to the necessary length to obtain the pipe joint. By this method, there is no intermetallic compound formed on a joining part and joining is firmly carried out. Accordingly, the strength and corrosion resistance of the pipe joint are improved.
