Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease heat radiation to the surroundings and to prevent a decrease in cell heating rate at starting caused by introduction of cold air by doubling the outer jacket of a reformer and using the air passing through the space of double jacket as a heat insulator. CONSTITUTION:The temperature of a cell is raised at starting by burning the reformed gas produced in a methanol reformer (RF) in a start-up burner 1. The burned gas is introduced into a passage L which circulates a reaction air line P and a cooling line C in a fuel cell FC by using a blower 2. The air is introduced to replenished oxygen partial pressure. The casing jacket is doubled to form a circular preheating chamber 8, and heated air 11 is mixed with the burned gas 12, and the mixed high temperature gas is supplied to a cell (FC). After the cell was heated to a specified operation temperature, a control valve 13 is closed and a control valve 3 is opened, and the outside air is directly introduced through the control valve 3.
