Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a composition useful as a transparent tough resin, a coating material of good adhesion to glass or an adhesive which bonds glass to each other or to a hydroxylated resin, by mixing a substance having at least two hydroxyl groups with an organic acid salt of a hydrolyzate of an alkoxysilane. CONSTITUTION:The title composition comprises a substance (A) having at least two hydroxyl groups in the molecule (e.g., PVA) and an organic acid salt (B) of a hydrolyzate of an alkoxysilane of the formula (wherein R' and R'' are each a 1-4C hydrocarbon), e.g., an organic acid salt formed by hydrolyzing ethyl silicate by the addition of water and adding formic acid to the hydrolyzate). This composition forms a transparent and tough resin, can be used as a material for sunglasses and windows of a building, or a wire material for optical communication, for improving the abrasion resistance of various plastics or for antifogging coating. This composition can be used for bonding glass to each other or to a hydroxylated resin firmly in good water resistance.
