Abstract

PURPOSE:To heighten the S/N of an information reproducing signal, by providing an analyser which transmits or reflects a beam of light corresponding to a polarizing state, and a phase corrector being arranged at the incident path of the analyser. CONSTITUTION:The analyser 27 which transmits or reflects reflected light from an information medium corresponding to the polarizing state, and the phase corrector 26 arranged at the incident optical path of the analyser 27 are provided. In other words, a phase difference between the P-polarized light and the S-polarized light of the reflected light generated at every passage of an optical component between the information medium and the analyser 27 is kept at zero or in the neighborhood of (pi) by the phase corrector 26. Thereby, it is possible to prevent the reflected light from being made into elliptically polarized light, and the reflected light can be made incident on the analyser 27 keeping a linearly polarized state. In such a way, it is possible to heighten the S/N of the information reproducing signal.
