Abstract

PURPOSE:To exactly detect the concn. of gaseous CO by covering the surface of an FET for which an electrode having catalyst activity with gaseous CO and H2 and an electrode inert with said gases are provided with a proton conductor film and exposing the surface of the FET to an atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:The gaseous CO as a measuring gas passes the proton conductor film 9 and arrives at the gate electrode 61 of one FET when said gas is intro duced into this sensor. The prescribed reaction is then effected on the surface of the gate electrode 61 by the catalyst effect of Pt and the negative potential which is deeper with an increase in the concn. of the gaseous CO is attained. On the other hand, the silver of the source electrode 71 is not sensitive at all to the gaseous CO and, therefore, this electrode is kept at the prescribed poten tial. The potential corresponding to the concn. of the gaseous CO is eventually impressed between the source and gate electrodes. The current characteristic which decreases with an increase in the concn. of the gaseous CO is exhibited when the specified voltage is impressed between the source and grain electrodes.
