Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the compact device of good performance and to improve the formation efficiency of H2-rich gas useful for fuel cell system, etc., by carrying out the steam-reforming of hydrocarbon, etc., with the reforming device in which a reforming catalyst is used; a porous material is used at the boundary between the catalyst layer and the heating layer. CONSTITUTION:Reaction pipes each consisting of an outer pipe 1 and an inner pipe 2 are made of porous boundary material such as heat-resistant membranous metal, e.g., Cr and Ni. Reforming catalyst 5 is packed in reaction tubes, and heat transfer granules are filled in the inner parts of inner pipes 2 and is the outside of outer pipes 1, and heat insulating material 3 is provided to a body 4 to form a reforming device for fuel cell or for H2-producing apparatus. Then, the raw gas of CH4, etc., mixed with steam, and the burnt gas 9 of higher temp. then inflammable temp. of CH4 containing excess O2 are supplied to the reaction tubes. The gas 7 oozes out from the porous outer pipes 1 to the passages of the gas 9 to be burnt to form a desirable reaction temp. distribution 10 near the outer pipes 1. The gas 7 is reacted by the catalyst 5 to carry out the steam reforming with the result that H2-rich reformed gas is obtained.
