Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a glossy etched surface with a deep etched part by carrying out electrolytic etching in the two strong and weak stages when a pattern is formed on the surface of a metallic ornamental part by photoresist-screen printing and electrolytic etching is carried out in an etchant with the part as an anode. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the stainless steel, etc., as the facing parts for a wrist watch, etc., except the marks and patterns is covered with a photoresist film by screen printing to form a desired resist pattern, and the steel is dipped in an etchant bath 1 contg. an aq. soln. of ferric chloride with a working jig 2 as an anode. A current is applied between the anode and a cathode 3 made of Ti as a counter electrode to etch the stainless steel part as the anode. In this case, the interval between the cathode and anode is controlled to 5-30cm and the voltage of 10-20V is impressed to carry out deep etching as the first stage. The interval is then increased to 30-100cm, the impressed voltage is decreased to 2-10V, and a current is applied as the second stage. Consequently, the minute protrusions on the etched surface formed in the first stage are prefer entially dissolved, smoothed, and brightened, and the etched steel having a beautiful appearance can be obtained.
