Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize the band compression with less signal deterioration by adding a bit multiplex/demultiplex circuit to the band compression system by a signal processing in the direction of level. CONSTITUTION:A video or audio signal is inputted at first to a coding section 1, after the band compression in the direction of level is applied, the result is fed to a bit synthesis circuit 2. The coding is applied, for example, by the prediction coding system or the orthogonal conversion coding system. Several picture elements subject to the processing in the direction of level by the coding section 1 are used one set and a picture element is generated newly by the bit synthesis circuit 2. The output is sent as the sample value, a data subject to signal separation by a bit demultiplex circuit 3 is recovered into the original signal by a decoding section 4. Thus, the band compression is recovered with loss signal deterioration.
