Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain cuprous chloride having high purity with a simple apparatus by adding iron to an aq. soln. contg. cupric chloride under a specified condition to produce a soln. of cuprous chloride, by filtering, by diluting the filtrate with water while maintaining the filtrate at a specified pH and by washing the deposited cuprous chloride with diluted acid. CONSTITUTION:The content of free hydrochloric acid in the aq. soln. contg. cupric chloride is regulated to 10-110g/l, and iron, copper, zinc or Al is added and reacted at 50-100 deg.C the temp. of the soln. to produce copper(I)chloro complex soln. The reaction soln. is filtered under keeping warm to remove undissolved residue and the filtrate is diluted with pure water to about 5-10 times to deposit cuprous chloride alone while keeping the pH of the filtrate at <=3. The deposited cuprous chloride is filtered and washed with diluted acid (preferably hydrochloric acid) having <=3 pH to obtain the cuprous chloride crystal having high purity. In this case, the cost can be reduced by using waste water produced in etching copper plate in place of the soln. contg. cupric chloride and scrap, cutting waste, etc., in place of reducing agent such as iron.
