Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a coating agent for paper capable of imparting properties of low absorption of air, oil and organic solvents and low permeability to paper, i.e., capable of imparting high degree of barrier property by including a PVA having an ultrahigh polymerization degree. CONSTITUTION: This coating agent includes a PVA having an ultrahigh polymerization degree of >=4,000, preferably >=10,000 and a saponification degree of >=95 mol%. Paper to be coated is suitably paperboard such as manila board, white board and liner board, printing paper such as commercial woodfree paper, medium quality paper and photogravure paper, separator, information processing paper or the like.
