Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve a beam in stability by a method wherein diaphragms are provided to divide a discharge space into a plurality of regions in the direction of the laser optical axis, guides are provided to determine the directions of gas flows in the respective regions, and every other guide is reversely installed so that the gas flow direction is reversed in every one of the regions. CONSTITUTION:A diaphragm 11 is provided to divide a discharge space 2 into a plurality of regions 2a and 2b, gas guides 13 are provided to determine the direction of a gas flow 6b in the region 2b, the direction of installation of a gas guide 13 on this side is reverse to that of a gas guide 13 positioned on the other side of the diaphragm 11, so that the gas flows 6a and 6b in the regions 2a and 2b are reverse to each other in direction. Accordingly, for example, a laser beam on the right side of an optical axis passes equally through a high-temperature and low-temperature sides. This design reduces beam asymmetry and emission direction deviation attributable to uneven temperature distribution in a gas flow 6. This in turn neutralizes the ill effect exerted by uneven gas temperature distribution, realizing a laser beam excellent in stability.
