Abstract

PURPOSE:To build up an economical and practical spatial optical communication system by adopting the constitution so that a light source for lighting is utilized for the light source of a spatial optical transmitter. CONSTITUTION:A data signal 4 inputted to a liquid crystal drive circuit 2 exter nally in a spatial optical transmitter 10 modulates a driving signal of a liquid crystal 3. The modulated driving signal is fed to the liquid crystal 3 and the on/off of the liquid crystal 3, that is, the transmittivity of the liquid crystal 3 is switched in response to the data signal 4. Thus, a consecutive light 5 project ed from a light source 1 for the lighting or the like is subject to intensity modu lation when it transmits through the liquid crystal 3, and extracted as a modulat ed light 6 in response to the data signal 4. The modulated light 6 outputted from the spatial optical transmitter 10 is received by plural optical receivers 8. The data signal is demodulated by the optical receivers 8.
