Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a knitted fabric by knitting separable yarns in a specific mode into a cylindrical knitted fabric so that the cylindrical portions are separable quickly, easily and in good appearance and the edges have practically no knitting bar and thus there is no need of hemming. CONSTITUTION: This knitted fabric is obtained by the following procedure: separable yarns 33 are subjected to knitting treatment into plain stitch course only with the needle on one of needle supports over a single turn of a knitting machine; subsequently, without ejecting the stitches of the plain stitch course, stitches are ejected from the needle on the other needle support except an exchange site X limited to slight wales, and then the remaining separable yarns 33 are subjected to knitting treatment into plain stitch course with the needle on the other needle support within the range of the exchange site X. In this knitted fabric thus obtained, its appearance is not impaired due to the residual separable yarn after mutual separation of the cylindrical portions.
