PURPOSE:To efficiently charge and prevent the excessive discharge of a battery from being generated, by detecting the excessive discharge of the battery, and by setting the set voltage of a regulator to be higher at the time of the excessive discharge. CONSTITUTION:A battery 3 is charged with the output of a generator 1. The discharge quantity of the battery 3 is detected by a battery discharge quantity detecting sensor 7, and charge or discharge current is detected by a battery charge or discharge quantity detecting sensor 8. From a voltage setting unit 6, a value corresponding to these values, as the set value of the output voltage of the generator 1, is applied to a regulator 2A. By the regulator 2A, current flowing to the field winding 1C of the generator 1 is controlled, and the voltage of the generator 1 is controlled. At the time of excessive discharge, the voltage of the generator 1 is raised, and so charging is efficiently executed.
