PURPOSE:To prevent an error action from being generated, by monitoring arm short-circuit working due to arm short-circuit protecting function, and be forbidding the ignition of the switching elements of all arms according to the monitored result. CONSTITUTION:DC power from a stringing 1 is AC-converted in PWM system by an inverter 6, and is fed to a three-phase AC motor 10. Voltage applied to the semiconductor switching elements 7-1-7-6 of respective phases is detected by DC transformers 9-1-9-3, and is compared with a reference value by comparators 17-1-17-3. When the two units of the semiconductor switching elements of respective arms are turned ON, then DC transformer output almost comes to zero. In this case, the output of the comparators comes to a level '0', and via a NOR gate 18, an RS'FF 21 is set, and command for forbidding the ignition of the switching elements of the all arms is applied to a gate controlling circuit 15.
