Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the outside diameter of an insertion part small for lessening a pain which a patient might suffer from, by providing a curvature drive means for adequately curving a curved part of the insertion part and by locating the curvature drive means closer to its operation side than a position at which the outside diameter of an internal material varies. CONSTITUTION:A wire drive 31 is located with a free curvature to be axially spaced from the rear end of a protection tube 75. Namely, the wire drive 31 is located closer to its operation side 12 than a position at which an image guide 74 and the protection tube 75 have smaller diameters. In this arrangement, since the large diametral portion of the image guide 74 covered in the protection tube 75 and the wire drive 31 do not overlap on each other in any cross section, the maximum surface area of the internal material of an insertion 11 is smaller as compared to the same in another arrangement wherein the wire drive 31 is mounted at the rear end of a curved part 16 to overlap the protection tube 75. The outside diameter of the insertion 11 can thus be made small.
