Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent a rear-end collision forecasting device from generating malfunction by accurately executing distance detection for calculating a relative speed by a triangular range finding method considering also the angle of a picture. CONSTITUTION:Electromagnetic wave beams 12 are radiated from one's own car 10 to a forward card 13 and a distance up to the car 13 is found out from the difference of angles of reflected waves by using the triangular range finding method. Time required for approaching the distance to a previously determined remote distance (a remote prescribed position) is counted. The relative speed between one's own car 10 and the forward car 13 at that time is calculated, and when the relation between the relative speed and the speed of the car satisfies the speed of the car >= relative speed and the speed of the car >=a set speed, a rear-end collision forecasting alarm is outputted. When the forward car 13 is located on a previously determined relatively remote distance, no output is generated from a near distance sensor B, so that a collision forecasting alarm is not generated.
