Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the energy density and improve the quick charging characteristic by using a metal three-dimensional porous body made of foam metal or metal fibers as an active material holder, filling a hydrogen absorbing alloy into this active material holder, pressurizing it, and forming a porous conductive layer. CONSTITUTION:A metal three-dimensional porous body made of foam metal or metal fibers is used as an active material holder, a hydrogen absorbing alloy is filled into this active material holder to obtain a hydrogen absorbing electrode, and the electrode is pressurized and formed with a porous conductive layer. When the hydrogen absorbing electrode is pressurized, the occupancy volume of a negative electrode can be reduced, a cell can be constituted with an extra positive electrode as much, and the energy density is improved. The pressurization processing of the electrode is disadvantageous to the gas absorbing characteristic, but the gas absorbing capability can be improved by the formation of the porous conductive layer. Either the pressurization processing or the formation of the porous conductive layer may be performed first.
