Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve toughness and deflective strength, abrasion resistance, cutting performance, working precision, and working efficiency of the title cutting tool by incorporating at least one kind of carbides of elements of the group IVa-VIa of the periodic table, Al2O3 and Si whisker in specified proportions by volume. CONSTITUTION:(A) 5-95vol.% at least one kind of nonoxide hard ceramic (e.g. TiC, TiN, or Tic+TiN+Cr3C2, etc.) such as carbide, nitride, of elements of the group IVa, Va, VIa of the periodic table, or solid soln. thereof, etc., is mixed with (B) 95-5vol.% Al2O3 and (C) 5-40vol.% (basing on the total volume of the product) SiC whisker is added to the mixture to obtain thus a mixture by mixing. A plateshaped sintered body obtd. by hot pressing said mixture at, for example, about 1600 deg.C under about 300kg/cm<2> pressure for about 1hr is worked with a diamond wheel, etc., to obtain thus the title working tool.
