Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate the attachment and detachment of an optical connector by providing an expansion member which engages lengthwise part of the slit of a split sleeve and moves the sleeve radially to vary the inside diameter of the sleeve. CONSTITUTION:The split sleeve 1 which has the lengthwise slit 11 and the expansion member 2 which engages the slit 11 are provided and the flank of the expansion member 2 is a tapered surface which decreases in width downward gradually. The insertion of the expansion member 2 increases the width of the slit 11 and the inside diameters of the split sleeve 1 vary so that phiD1<phiD2. When the outside diameter of an optical connector ferrule B is phiD0, a clamping force operates on the optical connector ferrule B at the time of phiD0>phiD1, but the clamping force on the ferrule B is eliminated at the time of phiD0<phiD2 and the frictional force between the outer peripheral surface of the optical connector ferrule and the internal surface of the split sleeve 1 at the time of attachment and detachment decreases greatly. Consequently, the attaching/detaching operation is made smooth and wear powder which exerts an adverse influence upon coupling loss is reduced.
