Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve bonding strength between a corrugated sheet and plates and also to reduce the material cost of a wash coat layer by forming recessing curved surface parts which face-contact the protruding curved surface parts of the corrugated sheet to the plates in a metallic catalyst carrier for a catalytic convertor. CONSTITUTION:Protruding curved surface parts 37-39 are provided at constant intervals on a corrugated sheet 33 and the distance A between the protruding curved surface parts 37, 39 is made to one pitch. Further plates 35 are provided with recessing curved parts 41-43 having a shape capable of face-contacting the protruding curved surface parts 37-39 of the corrugated sheet 33 and have corrugations of four-crest pitches B for one pitch A of the corrugates sheet 33. These corrugated sheet 33 and plates 35 are superposed and wound into multiple layers to form a metallic catalyst carrier 31 but the formation intervals of the recessing curved surface parts 41-43 correspondent to winding are previously calculated by calculation and changed. As a result, since a triangular space 45 formed between both plates of the obtained carrier 31 is made small, the usage of gamma-alumina 47 is reduced.
