Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve efficiency of hydrogen removal and to obtain an aluminum ingot containing extremely low hydrogen concn. such as 0.08cc/100g by cooling while blowing hydrogen removal treating gas into the molten aluminum under bubbling condition and solidifying.
CONSTITUTION: A cooler 2 is arranged at lower part of a vertically cylindrical electric furnace 1 and a cylindrical graphite crucible 5 containing the molten aluminum 6 is put on the cooler 2. At center of the graphite crucible 5, a hydrogen removal treating gas supply tube 7 is arranged as vertically movable and a ceramic-made porous bubble exhaust member 8 in fitted at the lower end thereof. The molten aluminum having the prescribed purity is charged in the crucible 5 and after supplying the hydrogen removal treating gas for the prescribed time, the supply of cooling water is started while containing this gas supply. The molten metal 6 is solidified from the bottom part of the crucible 5 at the prescribed solidified speed and the aluminum ingot having extremely low hydrogen concn. is obtd.
