Abstract

PURPOSE:To treat and make harmless efficiently a water containing difficulty decomposable organic compounds by treating with a metallic reductant after adjusting its pH and oxidation-reduction potential to respective specified values and removing dissolved oxygen. CONSTITUTION:A water containing difficulty decomposable organic compounds is aerated with N2 gas to remove dissolved oxygen, and its oxidation-reduction potential and pH are adjusted to -190mv or lower and 6.5-9.5, respectively. Next, 1X10<-3>-5X10<-3>kg of such a metallic reductant as Fe, Zn, etc. is added per 1m<3> of the water and allowed to react at 0-50 deg.C. The water is efficiently treated and made harmless by this method.
