Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a paper feed cassette from being changed over by incorrect operation of a user, by providing a control means by which changing is made possible without establishing a paper feed cassette changing switch or the like to an operation part of a printer and changing-over thereof is forbidden or permitted by control data to be transmitted to the printer. CONSTITUTION:In the case where paper feed cassette information such as a paper size of each cassette, presence of paper, presence of cassette installation, etc. is received (#46), whether a cassette is newly installed or not is checked (#47). Further, when a printer is individually in a changing permitting state (REMOTE=0, #48), selection of the cassette is again performed, and the initially set cassette is replaced by the mewly installed cassette by a cassette selection process (#49). Therefore, in the case of a permission mode, a paper feed cassette is automatically selected by installing the paper feed cassette. Further, in the case of a forbidden mode, though a third person performs operation of supplying paper to the paper feed cassette or the like in remote controlling from a host computer side, the paper feed cassette is never changed erroneously.
