Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent a speaker phone from howling by inhibiting an acoustic echo canceler and a line echo canceler from estimating characteristics of an acoustic path and a line path with a narrow-band signal such as a calling signal.
CONSTITUTION: Input signals to the reception input control acoustic echo canceler 5 and reception input control line echo canceler 6 are made white to minitor the input levels and when they are smaller than a threshold value, the estimation of an echo path is stopped so that the cancelers 5 and 6 do not estimate the characteristics of the acoustic path and line path with the narrow-band signal. The outputs of the cancelers 5 and 6 are made white reversely. Thus, an adaptive sound switch 7 does not decrease in insertion loss more than required with the narrow-band signal and the cancelers 5 and 6 are so controlled as to estimate the characteristics of the acoustic path and line path with the white component of a sound signal, thereby precluding howling.
