Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title porous polypropylene hollow fibers having an extremely small distribution, uniform pores, and high void volume by forming the pores with equally spaced rod groups at right angles to the lengthwise direction of the fibers and many fibrils connecting the rod groups. CONSTITUTION:The hollow fiber of polypropylene is spun by melt spinning. In this case, the draft ratio is controlled to about 3,000-7,000. The hollow fiber is heat-treated, drawn at about 120-160 deg.C and at about 150-500 magnification, and further heat-treated. In the porous polypropylene hollow fibers thus obtained, the fine fibrils extend in the lengthwise direction of the fiber between the relatively thick rod groups extending at right angles to the lengthwise direction of the fiber, and uniform pores having 50-250nm diameter are formed. The pathogen such as the AIDS virus in blood plasma can be complete filtered by supplying the pathogen filter blood plasma using such hollow fibers.
