When the lines L1 and L2 are connected to the facsimile equipment 1, a voice mixing circuit 62 sends a message to advice the other party side to send a facsimile communications response or a voice response. A frequency detecting circuit 61 decides whether the voice response or the facsimile communications response is sent from the other party and informs a control part 7 of the result. When the control part 7 receives the decision information of the voice response, the part 7 activates an automatic answering telephone set 2 and connects the lines L1 and L2 to the automatic answering telephone set 2.
