Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable detection of a defect and a crack-like heat resistant defect of a glass piece, by providing a black circular light shielding plate below the bottom of a bottle to irradiate the bottom thereof using a ring-shaped strobo light emitting source obliquely from below. CONSTITUTION:A black circular light light shielding plate 2 is provided below the bottom 1 of a bottle and the entire bottom 1 of the bottle is irradiated obliquely from below the bottom 1 thereof by a ring-shaped strobo light source 3 to take an image of the bottle bottom 1 with a TV camera 5. In the case of an acceptable bottle free of a defect in the bottle bottom 1, light of the light source 3 is transmitted or reflected askew to give a dark level on an imaging screen of the TV camera 5 with an image alone from a light shielding plate 2. But a defective bottle having a cracking 6 caused in the bottle bottom 1 scatters light from the light source 3 on a crack defect 6 to be turned to an upward scattered light 7 and detected as bright level with the TV camera 5. The defective bottle having a glass piece also gives a bright level with the reception of light scattered on the glass piece.
