Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a high track density by forming a superconductor layer on the surface of a magnetic recording medium, providing heaters for heating tracks for recording and reproducing to the lower part of the tracks and passing electric current to the heaters in the case of executing the recording and reproducing. CONSTITUTION:The superconductor layer 2 covering the magnetic recording layer 3 of the magnetic recording medium 1 is normally in a superconducting state. The magnetic recording layer 3 and a magnetic head are magnetically separated from each other by the Meissner effect of the superconductor layer 2 and the recording and reproducing in this state are not possible. The heaters 5 are, thereupon, formed along the concentrical data tracks under the magnetic recording layer 3 and the desired data tracks are heated by passing the current to the heater under said tracks in the case of recording and reproducing the track to and from the magnetic recording layer 3. Only the data track parts of the superconductor layer 2 are, therefore, transferred to the normal conducting state and the Meissner effect can be removed. The track density is thereby greatly increased while the conventional head positioning system is used.
