Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the performance and the life of a battery by forming a negative electrode with a composite prepared by previously absorbing lithium in a specified process in a molding of carbon fibers or carbon powder having a specified lattice spacing. CONSTITUTION:A molding of carbon fibers or carbon powder having a lattice spacing (d200) of 3.38-3.56Angstrom and metallic lithium acting as electrodes are immersed in a solution prepared by dissolving a lithium salt such as LiCl in an organic solvent such as propylene carbonate, and DC current is passed between both electrodes to previously absorb lithium in the carbon molding for forming a composite. By using this composite in a negative electrode, a battery having high energy density, good reversible charge-discharge performance, high reliability, and long life can be obtained.
