Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a bending moment from happening to a slider of thin type with light weight by loading dispersed loads onto lift generating surfaces of the slider correspondingly and making the titled device possess two degrees of freedom of rolling and pitching. CONSTITUTION:A supporting part 12 is fixed by spot welding, etc., with an end of a supporting part of a supporting member 4, where the supporting member 4 acts to transmit a force of a load working on a templet 9 to a templet 8 of a member 3. The member 4 is fixed at its supporting part 13 by spot welding, etc., with edges of a gimbal member 11 integrated wit a load bar, while the gimbal part 11 is possesses the degree of freedom of rolling because of its double lever mechanism. In other words, the titled slider supporting device is composed of the different members for rolling and pitching respectively. Consequently, a strong construction is feasible against a tensile strength at the time of contact, start and stop operations, whereas no bending moment due to the load is worked on the slider. By this method, a slider can be contrived to be thinner and lighter, while its following property can be improved.

As described in JP-A-55-22296, the conventional device supports the slider with a thin gimbal to allow rolling and pitching movements of the slider, and loads a spring with a low spring constant approximately in the center of the slider. It was configured so that it would be loaded.

(Problems to be Solved by the Invention) In the above-mentioned conventional technology, since a concentrated load is applied to the center of the slider, a bending moment (M) as shown in Fig. 2 occurs in the slider, and the thickness of the slider increases. required sufficient rigidity to overcome this bending moment.

On the other hand, narrowing the spacing of the magnetic head requires higher followability of the slider, and it is desirable to reduce the weight of the slider. However, downsizing of the slider leads to a decrease in the area of the lift generating surface, resulting in a decrease in air rigidity. The easiest way to reduce the weight of a slider is to make it thinner.

FIG. 3 mechanically illustrates the preferred slider support method of the present invention with respect to rolling. That is, the figure shows how the load W from the load bar is distributed to approximately the central portion A of the lift generating surface via the support par 4'. Therefore, for slider 1,
In each lift generating part, the load is distributed and the forces shown by the solid line and the chain line are balanced, so no bending moment is generated, and a slider support device suitable for a thin slider can be provided.

An embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to FIG. 1st
The figure is a diagram showing an example of the configuration of a slider support device of the present invention. Members 3, 4.5 are made of thin plates such as stainless steel, and member 3 is made of dimple 8. Gimbal part 10. The zero member 3, which is composed of a support portion 12 and in which part of the periphery of the dimples at both ends of the member 3 is adhered to the slider, is a support member that allows only the pitching mode because the spring portion 10 is wide.

The support portion 12 is fixed to the end of the support portion of the support member 4 by spot welding or the like. The support member 4 serves to transmit the force acting on the dimple 9 to the member 3 dimple 8.

Therefore, in order to maintain the tonality to some extent, the structure is bent. The end of the gimbal member 11, which is integrated with the load bar, is fixed to the support portion 13 on the member 4 by spot welding or the like. The gimbal section 11 has a one-sided structure and has a degree of freedom in rolling mode. Further, the spring portion 6 of the load bar provides freedom of vertical movement. In addition, 7 is a member fixed to the arm. 0 From the above, 1 Since the slider support device of this embodiment is configured with separate members for rolling and pitching, the pulling force at the time of contact, start, and stop is reduced. It is possible to create a structure that is strong against damage, and there is an effect that bending moment due to load does not act on the slider.

FIG. 4 shows an improvement on the conventional support device, which is another form of the present invention. A support member 4' made by bending a thin plate is provided between the conventional support device and the slider,
This structure disperses the force acting on the slider and reinforces the rigidity of the slider. Incidentally, the above-mentioned conventional support device is glued or spot welded to portion B of 4'.

According to the present invention, the slider can be supported in such a way that the bending moment due to the load does not substantially act on the slider, so the slider can be made thinner and lighter, thereby making it possible to provide a narrow spacing head with improved followability. In addition, when the slider support is structured as in Embodiment 1, pitching and rolling are handled by separate members, so C8
/, it is possible to provide a slider support device with a large tolerance for external forces at 9 o'clock.
