Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the uneven shades of color on the panel discharge surface readily, by forming only the gap layers with a transparent insulating material, in the spacer composition combining meshform cell layers and stripe-form gap layers superposed thereon at a specific interval. CONSTITUTION:Mesh-form cell layers 18 consisting of an insulating material such as a low melting point glass are furnished, and moreover, on the cell layer patterns either lateral or longitudinal on the cell layers 18, stripe-form gap layers 19 consisting of an insulating material such as a transparent low melting point glass are furnished superposing at a specific interval respectively to regulate the intervals to a side glass plate 11 to compose the electrode. A phosphor membrane 20 is applied, a glass plate 17 for the display side coverage is arranged to contact the top surface of the gap layers 19 to the plate 17, and the periphery is sealed up airtight to make a glass discharge space 16, where a specific discharge gas is sealed. Therefore, the uneven shades of color at the display surface of the plate 17 for display side coverage resulting from the spacer construction can be eliminated.

Conventionally, as an example of a gas discharge panel, one of a pair of substrates placed facing each other with a gas discharge space in between, is placed on one of the substrates.
Corresponding to the discharge sustaining cells provided only on the other opposing substrate, a mesh-like cell layer defining each discharge sustaining cell, and a cell layer pattern on either the vertical or horizontal side of the cell layer are provided on the opposing substrate. A spacer in the form of a striped gap layer stacked at a predetermined interval for defining a gap is provided, and a phosphor film for color display is attached to an area surrounded by the mesh-like cell layer. Surface discharge type gas discharge panels have been proposed.

By the way, in the above-described surface discharge type gas discharge panel having a structure in which a spacer is interposed between a mesh-like cell layer and a stripe-like gap layer in combination at a predetermined interval, There is a difference in density, in other words, between the spacer-corresponding part of the display surface, especially the spacer-corresponding part, which has a thick layer in which a mesh-like cell layer and a stripe-like gap layer are overlapped, and the phosphor film-attached part. This has the disadvantage that unevenness of light and shade occurs, which is noticeable when observing the display surface, resulting in poor display quality.

In view of the above-mentioned conventional circumstances, the present invention is based on the arrangement structure of the spacer on the display surface of the panel without changing the structure of the spacer formed by combining a mesh-like cell layer and a stripe-like gap layer. The object of the present invention is to provide a new gas discharge panel that easily eliminates unevenness in density.

In the figure, reference numeral 11 indicates a pair of display electrodes 12 each consisting of two parallel electrodes, on which a write electrode 14 is disposed in a direction crossing with a dielectric layer 13 interposed therebetween, and the surface thereof is made of MgO or the like. This is an electrode configuration side glass substrate coated with a surface layer 15. Reference numeral 17 denotes display side cover glass substrates which are arranged opposite to each other with a predetermined gas discharge space 16 in between. These cells include display discharge cells formed between the display discharge cells and write cells formed at the intersections between one display electrode of each display electrode pair 12 adjacent to these display discharge cells and the write electrode 14 above it. As shown in the partially enlarged perspective view of FIG. 2, a mesh-like cell layer 18 made of an insulating material such as low-melting point glass is disposed so as to partition the cell layer 18 on either the vertical or horizontal sides. on the cell layer pattern, for example, on the cell layer pattern in the direction intersecting the opposing writing electrode 14, an insulating material such as transparent low melting point glass for defining a gap with the opposing electrode forming side glass substrate 11. Stripe-shaped gap layers 19 are provided in a stacked manner at predetermined intervals.

Thus, the display side cover glass substrate 1 having such a configuration
7 are arranged facing each other on the electrode-forming glass substrate 11 so that the top surfaces of their respective gap layers 19 are in contact with each other, and the periphery thereof is hermetically sealed to fill the gas discharge space 16 with a predetermined discharge gas. By doing so, it is possible to eliminate unevenness in density caused by the arrangement of spacers on the display surface of the display side cover glass substrate 17, and to obtain a surface discharge type color display gas discharge panel with good contrast. It becomes possible.

Furthermore, the present invention is not limited to the surface discharge type gas discharge panel for color display described in the above embodiments, but also applies to a general surface discharge type gas discharge panel having a similar configuration, or a mesoche-like cell layer with a predetermined interval thereon. A spacer structure in which striped gap layers are stacked is also applied to the DC1ACBA dynamic counter electrode type gas discharge panel, which is provided on a glass substrate with electrodes on the display side or on a glass substrate with electrodes on the back side opposing this. Of course it is possible.

As is clear from the above description, the gas discharge panel according to the present invention has a mesh-like cell layer provided on one of the pair of substrates and a stripe-like cell layer provided on the mesh-like cell layer at predetermined intervals. In a spacer structure in which gap layers are stacked and combined, only the gap layer is made of a transparent insulating material, thereby reducing the panel display surface that was caused by the arrangement of the spacer structure. This makes it possible to easily eliminate unevenness in shading, resulting in excellent effects such as improved display quality.
