Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an enclosed type electronic equipment from being contaminated by gas, etc., to prolong the life of a device, and to secure its high reliability by forming plural units by an absorbent containing unit, containing each absorbent whose function is different from each other, in each unit, and adsorbing and eliminating plural kinds of corrosive gases in the gas to be processed. CONSTITUTION:Absorbents of a moisture absorbent part 101, an acidic gas absorbent part 102, a neutral sulphur carbon compound containing gas absorbent part 103, an alkaline gas absorbent part 104, and an organic gas absorbent part 105 are contained in each unit 106 and each of them is partitioned, and arranged in a stripe shape in order of its numbers. A corrosive gas generated in a fixed magnetic disk device 1 is adsorbed efficiently by each absorbent part 101-105 of an air cleaner 10. Also, dust, etc. generated by each absorbent part 101-105 are removed by a filter 107. Moreover, air which flows into the inside of a device from the outside of the device through a breathing part 3a always passes through the air cleaner 10, as well, therefore, it is cleaned by the air cleaner 10, when it goes into the device, and after it has gone in.

Conventionally, the storage device of a large computer has been placed in a dedicated air-conditioned room as a peripheral device of the computer itself. In such a case, even if the outside air was contaminated, the air in the dedicated air-conditioned room was clean to the order of PPb and did not pose a problem for the storage device. However, in recent years, due to advances in technology, storage devices have become smaller and lighter; for example, Nikkei Electronics, September 23, 1985, p. 153 -
The fixed magnetic disk drives described on page 172 (See the rapidly increasing number of new 3.5-inch to 5.25-inch Winchester disk drives) are not housed in a dedicated air-conditioned room and are designed to be used in general environments. placed.

As described in Volume 2, Special Issue P27-P47 (1971; Purification of Gas Pollutants and Indoor Environment), air contains air pollutants caused by combustion of fuel and the like. These air pollutants include, for example, corrosive gases such as acid gases, alkaline gases, neutral sulfur and carbon-containing gases, and organic gases. Therefore, consideration has been required to reduce the effects of temperature, humidity, and corrosive gases contained in the atmosphere on sealed electronic devices such as storage devices.

FIG. 3(A) is a top view showing a conventional air cleaner applied to a fixed magnetic disk device as an example of a sealed electronic device, and FIG. 3(B) is a sectional side view thereof. In the figure, numeral 1 indicates a fixed magnetic disk device, which is composed of the following components. Reference numeral 2 denotes a box-shaped device case main body having an opening at the top, and 3 a transparent member, for example, which is attached to the device case main body 2 with a fastener (not shown) or the like, covering the upper opening of the device case main body 2. The lid 3a, which brings the device into a sealed state, is a breather hole made in the center of the lid 3. 4 is a motor; 5 is a magnetic disk mounted on the rotating shaft of the motor 4; 6 is a magnetic head for recording information on and reproducing information from the magnetic disk 5; 7 is a magnetic head for moving the magnetic head 6 in the radial direction of the magnetic disk 50; This is an actuator for moving the These components 4 to γ are housed in a casing consisting of an apparatus case body 2 and a lid 3. 8 is a filter provided on the device case main body 2 side of the lid 3 to block the breathing part 3a for removing dust so that the pressure inside the fixed magnetic disk device 1 is more positive than the external pressure, and S is an air purifier. It is housed in the device case body 2 and consists of a moisture adsorbent and a breathable adsorbent storage unit.

Next, the operation will be explained. The rotation of the motor 4 causes the magnetic disk 5 to rotate steadily. A magnetic head 6 driven by an actuator 7 records information on the magnetic disk 5 and reproduces information therefrom. On the other hand, the air flowing into the inside of the device from the outside through the breathing part 3a and the air inside the device have dust removed by the filter 8 and exist inside the device. This purified air is further carried by an air flow caused by the rotation of the magnetic disk 5, etc., and moisture such as moisture is removed by an air purifier 9, and the purified air is present in the apparatus as clean air.

By removing moisture in this way, it is possible to prevent condensation due to moisture inside the device due to temperature fluctuations outside the device. If condensation cannot be prevented, the magnetic head 6 and the magnetic disk 5 will attract each other due to condensation, leading to mutual destruction when the motor 4 is started.
