Abstract

PURPOSE:An agent for giving pearl-like gloss that is composed of lecithin which has been hydrogenated so that its iodine value is in a specific range, thus giving detergents such as shampoo fine and stable pearl-like gloss by mixing in a usual manner, without adverse effect on foaming ability of the detergent. CONSTITUTION:Lethicin is hydrogenated by a known method, e.g., in the presence of a Ni or noble metal catalyst at elevated temperature and pressure so that its iodine value becomes 0-40 to give the objective agent giving pearl-like gloss. The agent is added to a liquid composition of detergent such as shampoo or rinse and cosmetics by 0.5-20wt%, preferably 1-8wt%, dissolved with heat, then cooled under stirring to precipitate fine crystal having pearl-like gloss. Or it is added to a surfactant solution in a high concentration, then converted into a pearl-like gloss dispersion by the above-stated method, then added to a variety of cosmetics.

Conventionally, natural compounds such as mica and fish phosphorus foil have been used to give liquid compositions such as shampoos and conditioners pearlescent luster and increase their commercial value, but these are expensive, thin, and natural compounds. Recently, synthetic pearlescent agents such as fatty acids, fatty acid esters, fatty acid alkylolamides, and polyalkylene glycols have been frequently used because it is difficult to obtain pearls of consistent quality. Examples of such synthetic pearlescent agents include stearic acid, ethylene glycol monostearate, ethylene glycol distearate, triethylene glycol distearate, palmitic acid monoethanolamide, and stearic acid monoethanolamide. Are known. These synthetic pearlescent agents are difficult to obtain fine and stable pearlescent luster when they are once dissolved and then cooled to precipitate crystals. Further, there are drawbacks such as agglomeration of the obtained pearlescent luster, loss of luster, and deterioration of foaming properties in liquid detergents that place emphasis on foaming properties, such as shampoos and harsh detergents.

The present inventors have overcome the drawbacks of such conventional pearlescent agents, and have developed a new product that can easily obtain fine pearlescent luster using a conventional method and does not impair foaming properties even when added to liquid detergents. As a result of intensive research to develop a pearlescent agent, it was discovered that a specific hydrogenated lecithin could achieve the purpose, leading to the completion of the present invention.

The type of lecithin used as a raw material is not particularly limited, but examples include soybean lecithin, egg yolk lecithin, corn lecithin, cottonseed oil lecithin, and seed lecithin. A general method for producing the hydrogenated lecithin used in the present invention includes a known method, such as a method in which lecithin is hydrogenated in the presence of a nickel or noble metal catalyst under high temperature and high pressure conditions until the iodine value reaches 40 or less. Hydrogenated lecithin whose iodine value exceeds 40 due to insufficient hydrogenation is not desirable because pearlescent luster cannot be obtained.

It is clear that the shampoo containing the gloss-imparting agent has a fine pearlescent luster and is stable, and its foaming power is not impaired. On the other hand, the shampoos shown in the comparative examples containing unhydrogenated soybean lecithin, hydrogenated lecithin with an iodine value exceeding 40, and ethylene glycol fatty acid esters did not provide pearlescent luster or were unstable. Even if it were obtained, it had drawbacks such as a decrease in foaming power.
